On Sunday our Pastor, Overseer Doris May, spoke to us by asking a question, "What Kind of Church Are We and What is God saying about our Church?". Her text came from Revelations 2:12-17.
In this text our Pastor spoke about the church in Pergamos. (Pergamose is call the city 'where satan's seat is'.)
On today I would like to bring out several thoughts from this sermon. The first thought is, no matter what type of pressure or temptations come our way, we must be like the Christians in Pergamos who held fast to their faith in Jesus. Likewise, we should do the same, we should hold fast to the name of Jesus and not to deny our faith in Him. Like Antipas, he risked his life for standing up for Jesus, he was killed. We as Christians today, we must continue to stand up for Jesus even if it cost our lives.
The next throught that our Pastor talked on was about not being bought by people, like Balak who was a king. He feared the large crowds of Israelites who traveled through his country so he hired Balaam to call a curse on them. At first Balaam didn't do it, but then he got offered some money which changed his mind. He eventually caused the Israelites to turn to idol worship.
We as children of God must be careful who we take counsel from, because God knows what's in our hearts. Whatever is in the heart will eventually come out in our actions and conducts.
